Inside Windows Vista: Windows Mobile Device Center and Sync Center

“Windows Vista recognizes that nowadays everyone carries multiple portable devices: PDAs, media players and Smartphones, and that it is important to provide a central place for managing these devices, setting up the synchronization rules and viewing the conflicts/errors. Windows Vista promises to improve the user experience for mobile devices with the help of Sync Center. So let’s take a quick look at the Windows Mobile device support in Windows Vista and see if the Beta 2 comes close to fulfilling that promise.”

Another freeware application for Windows Mobile 5.0 released: Bogle 411

This application will be useful mostly to Windows Mobile users in USA.
It works on all Windows Mobile Devices:

Alex Kac from WebIS writes:

Bogle 411 gives you instant access to yellow pages, white pages, Google, movie times, weather, encyclopedia, and Froogle results. You can dial any phone number directly from the display or add it to your phone book. The results are formatted to fit the Blackberry screen, and search completion saves typing. It is based off the BlackBerry app Berry 411.

We had a few people who asked for something like this so we had Jared whip this up and bring it to you. Its not highly polished, but it does work quite well.

WM5 & AKU2

Ever really wonder what AKU 2.0 (AKU2) really is? Think of it like a service pack for your Windows Mobile OS. AKU stands for Adaptation Kit Update and AKU 2.0 includes stereo audio over bluetooth, remote device wipe, and possibly push email. The situtation now is that we are all waiting on mobile operators to release the updates to consumers.

So how can you get AKU 2.0 you ask? Well unlike getting SP2 for Windows XP, Microsoft releases software directly to the manufacturer (i-mate, Dell, HP, HTC, etc.) who then make the software work with their products so that they can ship it directly to mobile operators who then send it down to you. It’s a long trail, but it has to go this way. Also, note that it’s up to the manufacturer of the device to make it available as well as what features are enabled in their release. Why would they disable features? They disable certain features if they feel that there is a big hit on performance or if the feature is just plain buggy.

GeekZone has a great deal of information about AKU 2.0 You should read up on it!
